Default Canon lenses, questions

Well I recently just sold off all my video gear and moved into the DLSR world.

I had two HVX200's with a 35mm adapter and nikon primes.

I picked up a 5D off CL's for dirt cheap, I ended up buying the cini package from redrock, I just ordered a shoulder mount and a nuckle-arm for my HD monitor.

I'm now looking for some glass for the 5D.

I want the below glass, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and maybe a macro lens.

I know glass is not cheap, but GOOD glass for photos is a must, how good of glass do you think it matters for video?

Thats my rig right now.

I ended up shooting with the 1D Mark IV last week and it sold me on this idea of shooting with DLSR.

Some people think it doesn't really matter. I think it sorta does. I think the expensive Canon lenses look better than the third party lenses. Some think the third party lenses look just as good. To me an expensive Canon lens just looks better. I don't know why but on video I can just see it.

That being said I'm going to use third party lenses for video because I can't justify the cost of an L series lens right now.

28mm-Canon or Sigma
35mm-Canon or Zeiss
50mm-Canon, Sigma, or Zeiss
85mm-Canon or Zeiss

I think if you can get some sort of adaptor mount you can put Nikon glass on the 5D but I'm not sure. If you can Nikon will fit all of these lenses as well.

Canon EOS 5D Mk. II all dressed up for use on a large-scale production. That’s a Panavision Primo 35mm on front, with Preston remote and Cinetape horns on top, all perched on my lightweight “Nimblecam” rig.

I'm not sure if you can tell but thats a Panavision Primo on front of a 5D...Talk about alot of money for that lens!

I'm sure if I wanted I could mount nikon glass but I'd rather not.

So do you shoot a lot of video or just when ever the time comes? Do you shoot video on a pro-end level or not.

Its what I do, yes.

I'm a DP in the bay area, I usally shoot music videos, commercials, short films and lately been working ALOT with National geographic.

I'm soon to be heading to India, Africa and Spain for a two month long run. I'm the shooter & the editor for this documentary. Small crew, only the director, the sound guy and my self will be heading out in the next couple of weeks.

They are being used in the T.V shows 24 & House, alot of T.V shows are being shot with them.

I do a lot of music videos in Miami lately and most of the producers prefer us to shoot with a 5D because shooting on film is ALOT, shooting on a RED is 1,000 a day & shooting with a 5D you can rent seven 5D's for the price of one RED then have some nice glass and have ALOT of coverage from a ton of angels shooting with the light weight, small 5D's.

Oddly enough its okay but from my understanding its not nearly as good as the 5D, right now the 5D is #1.

T2i has some issues when hooking up a HD monitor, the 7D bugs out alot in 720 24p, the same with the Nikon HDSLR.
