I think there is a difference between a professional photog and a profession in photog.
Those that make 100% of their income as a photog are simply in the profession of photography but some are far from pros. I would consider the pros the best of the best in the industry.

Didn't someone say that you became a professional photographer when it stops being fun and just becomes your job.
If that's the case I never want to become a pro

Truth. I heard this about wedding photography especially! lol
I could never be a wedding photographer, unless there was a clause in the contract that stated "photographer does whatever he wants and only takes suggestions from clients" I can't stand someone hounding me down for other pictures that I might have taken when I've already presented the best ones of the group.
Yeah. Hence, shoot with a friend/team. Cover everything that way, bride and groom, then the rest of the guests!
I really didn't mind the handful of weddings I've shot. Luckily most have been easy cause they were for friends and it was a lot less stressful. But they tend to be fun, and I like to know that I'm catching "those" moments...
I definitely won't go into it full time, I'll stick to it PT, every now and then for sure.

Well, it's not that bad. For instance, I'm usually charging in the range of 5-7 for a wedding. This is mainly due to the fact that having one body, one shooter, and having the down time to have to switch lenses, etc, makes it difficult to produce what I want, ya know? My friend and I are teaming up now and then and are doing it for about 1k for both of us. Each gets half, then its not so bad cause each person gets a little weight lifted, and still getting about as much as if we shot it ourselves. Now, if we each had 2 bodies, and the equivalent lenses, we could easily charge in that 2k range like most legit wedding photogs do.
