Default Softboxes Or Umbrellas

I trying to decide whether to go with softboxes or umbrellas,

Umbrellas are cheaper and easier to pack better, great for traveling lite especially for shows and events...

Softboxes are said to be better but cost more and although they come in portable the are still a hassle to pack.

Would like some thoughts on this...

It all depends on the light you're wanting to throw on your subject. Each is going to show a different light.

Here's a great article that Zach Arias wrote about the differences...with pictures lol

The event doesn't matter. It's how you want the light thrown on your subject.

I'm sure the car guys will speak up but your subject isn't going to make a difference on how the light is cast from either or.

You read

I said what are you going to use FOR lights. As in speed lights, AlienBees, etc...

Not, what are you going to use the lights FOR.
