WTB SLR, have 600 to spend where would be best buy?
so guys, i been wanting a slr since first time i used a P&S. i been looking for a while and just haven been lucky in finding anything, now what i really want is a d40 or a xsi, where would be best buy for this camera or something similar for maybe a better price, looked around a lot and cant decide as this is not my forte, also depending on camera mite be able to throw some cash on top
any help would be very apreciated guys, also looked on craigslist but get confused as to if a camera is a good buy or not.

take a look at the camera database on dpreview.com. Here's a link to the Nikon brand. Nikon Digital Cameras: Digital Photography Reviewfind the model you want and click the buy now check prices link under the image of the camera. this will give you a list of dealers and the advertised prices. I have a d40 I will sell ya if you want to get into it. Its been a great beginner camera for me and was really easy to use. I just upgraded to a Canon. Let me know!

You make it sound like Canon is an upgrade from Nikon lol, I am assuming you meant you went to a higher end Canon than the equivalent to the D40 lol

d40 seems good. i got a used d60 and love it. i wasgoing to buy a d40 but im glad that i decided to go up a notch.
also i think the new d3000 was like 600 at target the other day and it came with the 18-55 and if you bought the 55-200 for $200 and you got a $100 gift card for purchasing them both.

Buying SLR's at Target? lol That just makes me giggle for some reason. Why, don't know. Personally I'd either go to B&H (bandhphoto.com) or Adorama (adorama.com) if you're going to buy new.

No offense and I'm sure 100's of people have bought them off ebay but I would stay clear of buying a $500-600 purchase from a stock photo. I've heard too many horror stories from people buying them off ebay, getting them and they aren't new but refurbed, don't focus currently or something is wrong with them.

then pick up your mem card and a 18-55 IS with the remaining 200 and your good to go.

FredMiranda.com is another good photography site with great gear reviews as well as a For Sale section. Gear tends to be higher end, but not always. And the users are pretty reliable and accurate when describing what they have for sale.
