Default Which 70-300mm should I get for my D40?

I'm looking at these two right now:

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Motorized Telephoto Zoom Lens

About $190 shipped

-or-

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL-M "Motorized" DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens

About $160 shipped

The newer one is cheaper(It seems) but the other one claims to be APO, anyone have any advice?

Also if there's another similar decent lense out there in the same price range please let me know

i wish you could pick mine up!

look on B&H, its cheaper. And it seems as if both will work on the 40, its just that the APO version is newer obviously, and it seems that it will be a little quieter, faster, and cleaner looking (picture quality wise)...

scroll down just a little bit, read the title and you'll see which ones are for Nikon.

i suggest saving up and spending a little more for the nikon vr (the one michael has for sale)

or pick up a 70-200 2.8 and a 1.4 converter and have all the range and just about the same speed glass for a little bit more

maybe he meant 80-200 lol

but yeah, in all honesty, you can get away (somewhat) with the off-brand glass in the lower range of lenses, but when it comes to mid-range tele's it really pays to get the better OE glass

i did mean the 80-200 not the 70-200 but either combo is going to be a good bit more than the lens he listed to choose from. so yeah i'm worthless on this subject of low priced glass other than the nifty 50 1.8.

Good luck on your search for new glass!

I know one of those doesn't focus on the D40, because when I had the D40 I bought one that said "motorized for D40" and it didnt AF on my camera

If it doesn't do what its advertised to do then it's going right back in the box and I'm shipping it back

Thanks for the link Michael and I'd def buy yours if I had the money but I only feel safe spending less then $200 right now what with the crappy economy and my work knocking us down to four day weeks. I guess if I was responsible I would just hold off on getting new glass but... haha

I'm gonna sit on it for now and see if the price moves a bit but I'm gonna try and have something before BG

Thanks for the help guys and let me know if there's any deals you come across.

55-200mm VR for $219 shipped! DO IT! I guarantee the crop in on the 55-200 will be just at sharp, and most of the time sharper than the sigma 70-300
