Default Markymark1082's Evo shoot

So i just picked up an XTi and have never used a DSLR before, but wanted to play around with it on my buddies EVO. The lighting wasnt very good at all and it was kind of spur of the moment. Im looking for c.c./advise on how to take better pictures and make the most of this camera. i didnt edit or mess with the photos. Thanks in advance!
Some shots are with the 18-55 canon lens that came with it and some are with a Quantaray 70-300.

#1 is the best. They look good for no editing.

As far as the front shots go, make sure you are showing rim not tire.

Pay more attention to detail, you've got your bag in one shot.

Watch for things "growing" out of the top of the car - like the smoke stacks.

Don't post multiple versions of the same picture with minor variations. Pick the best one and leave out the rest.

You said the lighting sucked, wait until the lighting doesn't suck to shoot.

Just a few tips, hope that helps.

ISO should be on the lowest setting when using a tripod, also mess with the white balance when working under those horrible yellow lights. try and fill up the frame with more car but try not to cut out edges of the car, unless you're focusing on a specific feature

In addition to what everyone else said...

Watch for background items. "Especially" other cars. You don't want cars in the background when your subject is a car. Example: #9
