Hmmm, I may think about selling my G7 to put towards a D-SLR that I always wanted, I'll still have to think about it, but you can read up on it here:

Amazon.com: Canon PowerShot G7 10MP Digital Camera with 6x Image-Stabilized Optical Zoom: Electronics

Quite the nice camera I must say, but I'm not too sure yet. Let me know what you think.

Be sure to do some research before you buy from anyone. Are you looking for a Digital SLR or Film SLR? If you want a DSLR there isn't a whole lot available for $250... atleast in working condition. The G7 isn't really an SLR but from what I've heard it takes decent pictures. $250 isn't a BAD price for the G7, if that's what you want.

for under 250 you could pick up a nikon Pronea S they work with most the nikon lens and can be had for under 50 bucks shipped

Nikon Pronea S

ebay with a 30-60 lens and 70-300 G zoom

:edit:: never mind thats not digital, although you can always just have the film digitized
