Priced closely to the other, but you get a little extra out of it, its really sharp all around too. There may be a sigma thats close to it as well but I'd say check out the Tamron.
+1

And we just got a Sigma 70-300 for $150 (new). Bought it off ebay but the guy was great. It's actually a camera shop in NJ. We had it in 3 days.

We use our stock lens for a lot too though. For my Round Up shoots, I use the 50mm so it all depends on what you want to shoot. Between me and Matt, we use all 3 lens pretty equally. All of our stuff is here and it has all the exif on the shots.

Thanks for all the help. I will also be needing a lens that is extremely good for snapping wild birds.

Nice pics everyone has BTW

What will be your price limit for the lens? If you're serious about it, there are MANY options with some big players. Sigma and Tamron make some great lenses on the cheap (still expensive but MUCH cheaper than some of the default primes from Nikon or Canon). OR you can go with those primes...

All depends on your price range. You can also get a decent length, 70-200 2.8 and strap on a 2x t/c. Again, like I said, many options...

I did some research in about 10 mins and think that the lenses are not that great.
Canon EOS Digital REBEL XSi 450D Camera +5 LENS 4GB NEW - eBay (item 300280734839 end time Jan-12-09 13:31:14 PST)
Not the exact one but close minus the bag, tripod, memory etc etc
Probably going to go with B&H. I have a limit if a 1000 shipped and am looking for the camera, and one "all around" lense and a good zoom lense.

Amazon.com: Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black): Electronics

+

Newegg.com - Transcend 4GB Secure Digital (SD) Flash Card Model TS4GSD133 - Flash Memory

=

like $650 and pretty much all you need off the bat. packages are just a scam

spend an extra $200 for some crappy lenses, plastic filters, fake memory cards and a crappy tripod, doesnt sound like a good deal to me
