what a beasty lens. Btuner is right thoguh. He said excursion, not vacation. You go with what you can get by with. Its all about the pictures, not whether you are eating 3 meals a day, and staying in a nice hotel.

80-200 with which converter?

when did ya get the lens? i'm most likely gonna pick it up (hopefully soon)

i need it for my night shots at school for sports!!!

tamron 2x, not the greatest converter but its decent. I got the lens the day before thanksgiving. i LOVE it! its sooo sharp

well you can get away with any of the converters because those lenses ARE so sharp!

im gonna "settle" with the 80-200 due to the fact its basically the same lens as the 70-200 minus the VR stuff which i can do without. im pretty damn steady and the D300 can always go to 3200 to make up for just about anything low light related haha

well, youd be surprised! you're not ALWAYS shooting wide open at 2.8! if you're using the lens outside during the day, doing portraits or something along those lines, or trying to track something going really fast, it'll definitely help.
