Default Thinking of getting into photography

Hey guys, I had a few question about getting into take some nice pic's. A lot of the shots i would be looking at taking are high speed shots (like at the track and so on). I have a point and shot now and it is just not cutting it. I was thinking about getting the Nikon D80. I have done some research and found for what i am looking to do it should be fine. Any opinions on this?

I guess the real question is what should i start out with. I know I don't need a 5 grand lens to go with it, but I don't want crap. I was looking at maybe this kit: D80 Digital SLR NEW USA Camera Body +5 Lens 16gb kit - eBay (item 140283234352 end time Dec-19-08 17:58:36 PST)

But I am not sure if A) I need all of this or B) if this stuff is even good. Any tips and what accessories to buy would be great.

I will also use this for nature shots since i travel a lot. Not sure if that changes anything, but those are the two big reasons for getting a camera like this.

Thanks guys for all your help.

Ryan, I have a D60 if you ever wanted to stop by and play around with it. I love this little camera! I think it is a big bang for the buck.

Sounds good drew, i have been thinking about getting into it for a while, but it is the up front cost that is hanging me up right now.

Had a question has an one ever dealt with 1wayphoto.com? There prices are super cheap, but i am kind of stand offish when it comes to a deal to good to be true.

I ended up getting a D80 with the kit lense. They had a great sale with the lense it came out to 650 or so. But they also gave me a free printer, photo classes, free prints and rebates on the memory. Then i picked up a few odds and ends like a case, memory, uv filter.

I am going back this weekend hopefully and going to pick up a 50mm and then in a month or so pick up the 70-300mm VR lense for when i go to the track.
