Default Nikon Users -- Nikon SB-900 Discus

That's right the SB-900! I saw it on ebay, and then did further research of it's actual existence.

Has anyone seen this in person? Can somebody compare [from your perspective] it to previous models?

Thanks!!

It's been out for a few weeks now. It's $500, and it's bigger than the SB-800. People seem to be happier with the controls than they were with the 800, and the 800's supposed to be better than the 600. I have no personal experience with it, however. I can't see spending $500 for a flash, can you?

A guy I spoke with while I was at work does a LOT of architecture shooting and mentioned it, not sure if he has it yet, but seemed like he would be getting it very soon. I said thats almost the cost of a nice set of strobes and he said the 900 would be used basically as a strobe so if its that good to compete with some larger lights then cool deal! If I start shooting for this guy around the Tampa area (hes mostly in the 941 area) then I may have a nice new setup coming with lenses and flashes (he dropped a small hint about upgrading some gear if I join him/work with him)

Seems like a waste of money to me I couldnt imagine having anything brighter than my 285hv for hotshoe use, and if your just gonna use it for off camera lighting you could get 3 SB600's for the same price range, which would be way more useful.

A strobe is a strobe is a strobe. They all serve the same basic purpose. Not sure what is meant by "used basically as a strobe."

idk what HE meant by it. i said why not use some alienbees or something and he said he could just use the 900 being much smaller and so forth and i'm assuming he would be looking for the same or close to, the same results

I guess, I dunno. It's sort of like comparing a water hose to a fire hose. You said he shoots a lot of architecture - is it for advertising or something similar?
