personally i like it better, and thats not being biased. its older, and has a FEW less features, and a few less MP's, but all in all its the same, and its more compatible with more lenses.

The D50 has a screw-drive motor so you can use non AF-S lenses, and it has the same number of megapixels (six).

SOLD!!! to me 
I already took some pictures from my first SLR camera. Before I bought it, tested both the D40 and the D50. To me the D50 it's a little bit better to used since the auto focus it's built in. Now with this camera I can combine my graphic designer skills with photography! Here's my first shots, not photoshoped...
