If Santa would pay me a visit he'd drop off either a SB-600 [if they even fit the entry D40], a low mm wide angle lens [probably fisheye combo], or adobe photoshop

Well the next time P&G does a group session, count me in!
The SB-600 does fit the D40, as does the little known SB-400 and the higher SB-800. If I were you, I'd get SB-400. I often wish the 400 was out when I bought my flash, as having a big flash on-top of the camera is annoying and unweildy. (There has to be a better way of mounting a flash than a hotshoe, but that's another story entirely.)

Getting photoshop is easy.

Welcome to P&G. Glad to see another Nikon user in this sea of Canon nonsense.

Thanks I'll look into the SB-400!

Nikon FTW! I was looking through a digital camera magazine and saw a Canon ad, it had "Nikon" shooters bunched up together as they were shooting for a NFL game!

Sadly that was the only thing about Canon that I enjoy lol

Um...more on this photoshop deal!

p.s this post has alot of smiley faces!

well the sb-400 is a good choice, if you every get more into photography your gonna want more than that though, you can get bounce cards for the pop up flash so you can pretty much do the same thing as the sb-400 with the pop up, the 400 just has a lil more power, and also no off camera lighting with the sb-400

Thanks for the heads up! The SB-400 is more compact than the SB-600 but at the place where I priced them it was only like a <$80 difference.

P&G should have it's own FS section!

If anyone is selling a Camera/Laptop Bag that could fit a 15.4" computer, lmk, just searching as we speak! Don't really want to pay retail.

We just post F/S threads in the regular forum. We only ever see one or two of them in a month.

As for a backpack though, see here: PROVANTAGE: Case Logic SLRC-5 Medium SLR Backpack

It will hold a laptop, camera with kit lens (in the weatherproof portion at the top), and up to six lenses (depending on how big they are, and how you configure it) and it has room for accessories in the sides. The build quality isn't up to that of much more expensive bags but I've had mine for two years and it's still going strong.

I will warn you though, don't worry too much about being able to carry a laptop. When you get your camera and a few lenses in there, it starts to get heavy if you're going to carry it for any decent length of times. Your laptop will be the first thing you decide to leave at home.

As for the SB400, btuner was right about it just being a stronger built-in. It sits quite close to the camera, which is more convenient, but there are lots of advantages for moving the flash farther from the lens-axis. The 400 is roughly $100, the 600 is roughly $185 and the 800 is about $300.
