Default Could use some pointers

Well my saturday evening plans fell through, so I decided to go shoot some pics of the car for shit's and giggles.

Im still getting the hang of using my camera (Cannon Digital Rebel XT) and I could definately use some pointers from anyone who's experienced with shooting cars.

The car isn't as clean as I would have liked, but Im still learning so figured it'd be allright

This shot was the best of the evening, and was taken from a tripod with the ISO set to 1600 and the shutter speed set to 6 (took me a while to figure out how to shoot in the dark, I have no formal training).

Any advice would be welcome!

For that shot I would've left the Shutter open for 10seconds rather than 6. Also, try and keep the shots well lite at night. I don't own a XT or know much about their functions... but night picture settings are virtually the same.

That dark.

Settings should been Alot longer. and keep the Iso low. Higher it is more grainy the shot will be.

Awesome! Keep the advice coming please!

Also, my damn tripod (which is a hand-me-down from the 70's...long story) kept shifting on me. Im planning on getting a new one soon.

I was using my remote to trip the camera and standing a short ways away so as not to introduce vibrations, but the wind was a little high tonight, so that screwed a few shots too.

Ironically, I didnt aparently have the shutter open long at all, as I just figured out to have it open for more that a fraction of a second.

It's a good thing this isnt a gun, or I'd be missing toes

Ok, played with it some more tonight, just in front of the house though.

Once again on a tripod, ISO set to 100 and speed set to 2 seconds. Im starting to get the hang of these settings, now I just need to get better at playing with the focussing.

Heres tonights best shot (In retorspect I should have turned the parking lights on):

Roger, I think I was set to 6 tenths of a second before, not 6 seconds.

Okay, I finally did the whole RTFM thing and I think Im getting into the ballpark on my settings. Next phase is to find a better place to shoot (these were shot in front of my house) and to start experimenting with different angles and perspectives.

Heres the latest results, and I apoligize for the weird angle. I have a very old basic tripod, and our street has a pretty significant crown to it.
