Well, I use reliablesite.net for my hosting. The plan is to setup a gallery2 install for everyone to use here. It's about as easy as flickr (if not more convenient) and it's fast. I pay $9.95/mo and I've got 100gb of storage and 999gb of transfer per month.

Overselling is rampant in the hosting world - very few people use more than a couple of gigabytes of storage and transfer per month and these providers bank on that.

Anyway, gallery is setup. I just need to setup a domain and it should be ready to go.

 

I have been using Photobucket FOREVER. So long that I actually made the decision to purchase a pro account there. There is a 5mb file size limitation and multiple file type support. Thats along with unlimited bandwidth, so my images never go down, which has happened plenty of times. Not to mention bulk uploading and/or FTP access. And it only cost me $25 for a year.

You have to weigh out what you need and what you think you need. I am perfectly content with what I get out of photobucket, even though its not a super-duper flickr pro account. And on the other hand, you cant expect to get professional results from free services. Image compression is essential to keep storage space and bandwidth low just to keep it what it is, A FREE SERVICE.

 

Now the hard part....figuring that out.

 

That's the easy part!

I guess I should take suggestions on what the domain should be.

 

Come up with a few and poll it....IMO


But it would be your site....so it would be your decision.

 

I already have a couple of domains, the real debate is whether it will just be used to host images for TR or if it will be used more universally.

I used to run Gallery2. I in fact I rather loved it other than the look of it. There was an update for it, so I updated mine, and I lost a lot of the cool things I liked about. And since I suck at programming, I wasnt going to try and fix it or restore it back. I went ahead added coppermine. Its pretty good, but I dont like that fact you cant have a bunch of subfolders like you can in gallery2

 

Gallery2 is pretty easy to work with most of the time. The initial setup has given me problems in the past and this time is no different.

Once it's setup and running, it's great. I've never tried coppermine, but if Gallery doesn't cooperate I'm going to give it a try.

 

I have unlimited hosting on my server... no quality loss. I use Coppermine.
