whats a 500mm lens worth and how great is it for as far as distance? lmk

mostly depends on the brand, and quality.

distance wise, it'll get you in pretty darn close to whatever youre shooting. within reason...

Is it used or new? And as for distance take a look at this...

Thats from up at on the beach... So im sure you can get an idea that it gets really close to the object. I've only seen them used for sports, races, and nature shoots(like deer)

I know ebay sells them cheap as well. But if the lense is in good condition i say go for it. I mean its only 80. But they get pricey when new...

Unless it's a huge (couple of feet long) and expensive ($1200+?) then it's a mirror lens. It will be a novelty, but don't expect outstanding image quality. Do a bit of research on the lens and see, but you're probably not getting a bargain.

another reason i ask is because behind my shop there is always 2 eagles that are at the top,i got some pics of the female in mid flight and the male sitting at the top and its 180 ft tall,i want closer pics and reading what everyone has said it should do the job..thanks guys and will spread some around

yea I agree with 94gsr, chances are its really old manual focus or a mirror setup. A lot of the mirror mounts will require an adaptor to mount it your camera as well. Got any specs on it?
