- What kind of Digital Camera?

- Point and Shoot? Or SLR?

- How much are you willing to spend?

The best for the money? I'd say this one, if you have the cash:
Hasselblad | H3D-39, SLR Digital Camera | 70360530 | B&H Photo

Seriously though, like DareDevil said, we need more details. Most importantly, how much are you looking to spend?

Cameras range from $25-$30,000 and beyond. Money is an issue unless you're Bill Gates. Just give us a limit and/or some features she wants/needs.

It's like buying a car... I could suggest a Kia Rio or a Land Rover depending on the usage it will see. Hope that helps.

Look at some reviews and prices. Base your decision on the reviews. Here are a few in your price range. The most common cameras for that price.

DSLR:

Canon Rebel XTI/400D - DPreivew.com

Canon 40D - DPreview.com

Nikon D300 - DPreview.com

Nikon D40 - DPreview.com

SonyA700 - DPreview.com

Don't worry about it. I don't really need the rep anyways
