I get splitters because they are literally 5 bucks and it keeps everything plug-and-play. I hate soldering. also, quad-highs are something amazing where I live. And yes, all a splitter harness does is split the high beam bulb wiring to go to both the solenoid and the factory high beam bulb. Yes, projectors can be purchased anywhere, I am just listing places I have personally bought from. And i normally wouldn't recommend cheap components, but in my experience, I have used the cheap projectors and cheap hid's in 3 retrofits without a single failure aside from one 5000k bulb. Sure you can find people who have had bad luck, but thus far I am sold on them. I have only used the morimoto's on one retrofit and they work great as well. I have had great experiences with both methods and that is why I think I am justified in recommending both routes.

The only LED systems that surpass HID systems, so far, are the ones that are vastly more expensive and are OEM. Matter of fact, one of the best lighting systems (minus the Lexus LS projector HID's) are the Koito's LED systems scene in the 8th generation Nissan Maxima, Nissan Rogue, and some Lexus SUV's. The have an incredible width and an powerful but beautiful cut off. However, once you see the housing for the Koito's you quickly realize it's just more than the bulb that creates such an amazing output. The Koito's have an enormous heat sink and very large projector system. Then again, it cost to be the best.

never put a HID/LED in a stock reflector housing. it is not designed for that type of application and will blind oncoming traffic. don't be an asshole, keep the roads safe at night. UNLESS, the vehicle came with factory HID in a reflector setup, then that's fine. The reflector has been design to distribute light output properly using a HID bulb.

I always was a big fan of latest tech. I love LEDs, I work with all kind of LEDs, I do electronics, I know what is the difference between LEDs and HID light bulbs. BUT... most automotive LED light bulbs built for headlights won't last as much as HID ones. Just a small example: I put HID 6000K 55W kit on my SUV 4 years ago. Still working just great. I installed LED bulbs for the fog lights 2 years ago and both bulbs were already out around Nov. 2016. I have all the interior lights on LEDs and the whole front as well (parking lights, turn lights, side markers and side turn lights). Yet, for the headlight bulbs... I would go for HID, even though it's a bit harder to install. And let's be fair: you only install that kit once in 8-10 years, so it's not that much of a hassle. Of course, the quality of the installed products could be different from user to user, from company to company. Just my experience.

New VWs use LED headlights in which the bulbs cannot be replaced, since they're meant to last forever. And even halogen bulbs are known to last longer than xenons. HIDs generally have great width, but they lack high beam range. I think HIDs only have two advantages over halogens: width and colder color. Currently car manufacturers aren't hesitating in replacing HIDs with LEDs, and that tells a lot. According to multiple long term tests conducted by a Finnish car magazine TM, xenons lose more of their range than halogens do.
