Question about light fastness/neon colors
Ok, so HOK has a neon color, and im kind of weary about it. I really like the color, but my 3 main concerns are:
1) Can a neon color have a flake or metallic mixed into it?
2) Is there a way to combat the light fastness? (i.e specifically made clears or anything like that.)
3) How does prep work go when dealing with neon colors? Do I need a white primer/white basecoat, or could I have it sprayed over any kind of primer?
I browsed around HOK's website, and didnt find too much helpful info, so maybe you guys could help me out a little bit more.

House of kolors is a pain!! I would suggest trying to duplicate the affect you want in another paint brand. Most paint companies have some wild stuff now. Also try Alsa.com for REALLY crazy shizzz

Its not so much an effect. I just want a solid color with a flake in it. Alsa had some pretty cool shit, but they dont have the colors im looking for.
Problem being, im stuck on this specific color, and HOK has it and it happens to be in a neon, which is what makes me worry, because I dont want the paint to fade in 6 months.

Thats the problem with custom paint work> not made to be daily driven in sun and rain and such. its more meant for indoor car shows hahah.

1) Yes. Not a problem at all.
2) Yes. Several coats of a High Solids clear will significantly slow done the fading process. Most of my candy jobs receive three coats of clear then get blocked and then I spray another three coats of clear over them again. I figure actual clear on the car is betwen 4 1/2 and 5 coats after sanding and buffing are completed.
3) Most colors like the one you are referencing have a specific base they need to be sprayed over to achieve the same color. White obviously will give you the brightest neon color.
What else can I answer for you?

if you want something a little more heavy then metallic then very very fine flake can be added in the clear, if it is laid on perfectly even then it can come out to look very close to what you are looking for.
