DIY rust repair
Needs some tips for rust repair on a 1989 Jetta. As far as costmetic rust goes this seems to be the worst of it:
Plan was to knock off the rust with a wirewheel then hit it with SEM Rust Mort. Will also drip/spray Rust Mort in the holes as I am sure there is probably some rust forming on the inside by now (thanks to the holes). After that prime and paint with a color matched topcoat so it somewhat matches the rest of the car. Someone told me to try POR15 after the Rust Mort but, correct me if I am wrong, POR15 isn't all that great if you intend on painting over it.
If done properly would that be sufficient to stop the disease? I understand the proper fix would be cutting out the rot and welding in new sheet metal...but that isn't in the budget just yet. I really just want to stop the car from being eaten alive before I can get the money together to address these issues permanently.
