Default summit/eastwood urethane paint?

im plannig to start working on the body of my truck soon. ive never painted a car myself before but plan to paint the truck myself. i was looking around and both of these companies have a urethane single stage paint system. i already know from what ive read that i will need the slow activator as its well over 80deg here in florida, but what i dont know is if i will need the reducer they mention. is this just to thin it out so its easier to spray?

also, any tips on how many coats? i was thinking 4-5 as i plan to wet sand and then polish the paint after im done. if it turns out nice enough i will paint all 3 of my supras myself too. i already know i need to take everything apart and paint it piece by piece for the best turn out. i want it to look nice, not like a macco paint job.

OK first things first, when using a single stage there are different things that need to be considered,
First is what color and is it a metallic?
Metallic paints when used in a single stage are tricky to say the least, I.E. if you are shooting a base coat and you screw up like when you get blotchy spots you can just sand them down a bit and hit them again, single stages are not as easy to get rid of defects.

As far as how many coats you need again it depends on color, are you going to prime the whole car? if you are going with single then i would highly recommend it, if you are going to use a gray primer it will work good to get you a uniform look but if you are doing a heavy metallic or pearl color then you want to ask you paint suppler on what would be the best color primer to get the effect that you want, it is just a question of tinting.

Once you have your primer down and you have blocked it down smooth, to make sure that your body work is good, then apply you paint in nice even LIGHT coats, just take your time and overlap your spray pattern about 70 percent and keep a wet edge, as soon as it is covered and nice and even then stop, and when I say even and covered I mean look at it in all directions and in all different lighting, if you have some halogens that is what I would use, aim them down the side of the car and look at each panel lengthwise. (this also works really well when doing body work)

Hope this helps and good luck.

and as far as mixing your paint to get it to the best spray you can just ask the people that you buy it from and they will give you a mix sheet that will tell you which reducer and the proper mixing, I.E. 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 and so on.

it will not be metalic. it will be light blue with white on the top half of the cab and inside the cab and on the dash. its a 64 c/10. going for the stock lightblue/white 2 tone. if it comes out well, then ill be paint my 2 black supras a high gloss black, and then my blue supra a deep navy blue. all non metalic.
