okay, well we've been busy, i've got some updated pics.....the vinyl top is off and this is where we're at now, i wish i got pics before the patching so you could see how bad it was but oh well! the hearse car show is next weekend so we'll be busting ass to finish fixing all the holes this next week!





here you can see across the top some of the holes we've welded closed. right behind the door in that corner where the metal plate was, bottom left of plate, there was a large hole.




here you can see the roof hasnt been worked on yet. under the vinyl top there was paint, bondo, rubberized undercoating stuff and glue. this is whats taking forever to get off..... which is of course the tedious job i ended up with!




there was a hole in that corner behind this door too where the plate went.

oh yeah, and we discovered the car was originally black, then painted an ugly offwhite/tan color, then painted black again over it....so we were pretty pissed that they painted over black to do that ugly color, i guess they were trying to cheer it up when it was in service. so thats why the paint job was so crappy....and yes, they painted the vinyl too!

after you fix all the rust and wanna put another top on that bad boy give my dad a call he does vinyal tops and you could probly go to you to install 813-380-7357 -Dave

 

vinyl is never going back on top of the car. way too much rust to have to worry about it again. once im done im going to smooth out the whole top and then get it line x'd and painted over in satin black.

Nice progress, but a respirator would help a lil better , isn't the top back fiberglass? and if you need to remake the windshield channels i have a shrinker and stretcher that can make quick work of it.

 

windshield channels are cool. i was able to cut out what was bad and remake the rest. its an all steel top, they started fiberglass in the 80's. Thanks, i have access to shrinker/stretcher at work, patches for a c-130 get tricky sometimes.
