i got an 86 rx7 from my friend friday and got it all street legal and on the road today. i took it for a little test drive and after about 5 or 10 minutes i noticed the temp gauge was all the way up. so i pull over and the engine stalled and i looked in the radiator hose to fing out that my friend didnt put water in the radiator after replacing the radiator hose. i got some water from a gas station and after a while saw oil in it so i checked the oil dipstick and i saw watered down oil. i have no clue whats wrong with it except for either its blown or a gasket is blown. not too sure cause i know nothing about rotarys. any suggestions on what it is and how much it would cost? thanks.

Sounds like you got a blown collant seal / which equals to a blown headgasket.

You better hope you didnt over heat it to much to long,and warp the rotor housings,

Time for a rebuild,

How many miles on the engne?and were you blowing white smoke,sweet smelling out the back?

 

My first "sports" car was an 85 GSL. I agree with Rotary7, it sounds like the coolant seals went.

 

Does the car still run?


Does it run crappy with no power?


If it won't idle.. its probadly a bad coolant seal as the water getting into the combustion camber makes the car idle bad and misfire and stall out.

Pull the plugs out of the rear rotor, smell them are they sweet smelling? This is the rotor that always blows first, being its futher back from cool air and getting the most abuse from the heat of the engine.


You may be able to by with just replacing the back half of the engine, if thats all you have money for.

Why would rotor 2 "blow"

You got bad collant seals,You DONT know which one they are so when you crack the engine open change all your rubber seals,

I know you dont want to put out for new apex,so check them,clean the carbon off,reinstall and change all the rubber gaskets,That should get you by for a while.

You might have other internal problems with you engine but you wont know untill you open it.

well monday when it stopped it was idling at like 2k and tuesday i tried starting it and it ran. so i drove it around a little and it was idling too low and stalled a couple times. when i first started it up on tue. it was smokin white for about a minute then stopped.


who was it that wanted a 13b? you can have my whole car. it has one. its also supposed to have a racing rebuilt tranny and rearend. it was pretty bad ass when i first got it. my dad wants me to get rid of it fast so if anyone wants to make an offer. ill get some pics soon if you want some or if you live somewhere close in da burg you can come see it. live over by northeast high.
