having trouble with the temprature gauge reading hot at start-up. what the heck is going on?

Water pump or the fan is being blocket check to see if theres coolent also

i've got an 85 325e with an I swap, and the temp gauge bounces back and forth, im assuming it just doesnt work....?

the e30 models like yours are common for the gauge clusters just going bad....

as for the OP the e36s never had that kind of problem...
