i have drivin the 325i auto & manual, e30*(stick)-e36-e46 in auto & manual also.

I think in all years the ///M series owned. But that is my opinion.

 

hey man you want to get an M3 1996 or before if you can, cuz after that year they started getting alot more electrical, my boy mikes got a 1996 M3 with upgraded brakes custom rims clean interior and perfectly maintained for 9000$ its silver/black and its deep as fuck, but the only m3 autos were after 97 and you usually only found them in 4 doors or convertables

e36 me= no individual throttle bodies...only overseas. the euro motor is disappointing, the euro 6 speed trans is awesome!

euro e46m3 is faster due to where the cat is on the car (my friends work for bmw north america...so i get the inside info)

Think you got it backwards -- the 3.2l E36 M3 euro motor is what is NOT dissapointing, pulling off 321hp. The previous euro e36 m3 3.0l motor I believe got 286hp. I believe our North American E36 M3 motors got 240 in both 3.0 ODBI and 3.2 ODBII configurations.

The differences between the Euro e46 M3 S54 motor and our NA E46 M3 S54 motor are widely known, not inside info anymore . Thankfully it is mostly the same thing as our NA S54, though our cats are done differently as you mentioned and are closer up to the engine and inside the headers, yielding the 333hp rating for our S54 and 343hp rating for the euro S54. Software of course will be different as well. This is easily remedied of course by running aftermarket headers and aftermarket software, though tip of the line headers (supersprint stepped) are well over $2000... if I do anything in the future it'll just be with ebay headers

If you still think I'm incorrect with my statements about the e36 m3 3.2l motor, please email the admin of this site and tell him to correct it -- BMW M Registry - FAQ E36 M3 3.0 and BMW M Registry - FAQ E36 M3 3.2. I have never owned any BMW other than the e46 m3 so I don't have any personal experience to go on, just what I've read and researched.

 

no, my statement is correct. i owned the euro setup. it is disappointing...as well as an e-46 m3...no torque. I waited all that time, and was told how fast it would be, truth of the matter is, it wasn't. i mean my old c5 vette walked it. an E-36 US motor built with a turbokit would have been a much better option for me, i found out the hard way. Say what you want about it, i'm stating my personal experience. the coolest thing about the e-46 m3 is the smg tranny, take off the dsc, put it in race mode, and its a blast to drive.

This is what the M3 was built for (well, the inspiration for it's design at least).... You did make a huge mistake of time and money building an M3 to be a torquey street racer

There is at least a turbo kit now for the S54 which pushes it to 500 & 600+rwhp (pump gas, race gas). Only costs $16,000 too and works with the stock internals and exhaust.

 

yeah...i see tons of m3's with stock internals running 500rwhp lol...

m3 was a great 1st car...great to learn on, i just out drove what the car could do. btw yes i went to limerock with it and skip barber racing school as well...
