87 325- fan clutch dead? should i go fan delete?
today after taking my mema to lunch i noticed my temp start to go past halfway, then past the 3rd mark and then steam from under the hood so i pulled over into a parking lot. right at the thermostat housing the hose that come outta the t-stat and points towards the radiator fan and then goes around the plug wires and down , that hose burst right at the t-stat housing. i realize its because my engine fan isnt turning. i tried to move it by hand and it barely moves. so is my fan clutch gone?
also would it be better to replace the fan clutch or go fan delete and lower t-stat? or go electric fan? i was thinking of ordering an electric fan if i can find one to fit

only if you over heat while stopped is your fan clutch the problem, from the sound of it your fan clutch is working perfectly if you couldnt turn it while the motor was super hot.
sounds more like you had a cracked/leaking lower radiator hose, once the engine got to hot, it was enough to blow it, get a new hose and run it around your house. If you dont over heat you are good.
a fan clutch has gone bad when it spins freely, meaning there is no resistance to move the fan when the clutch heats up, thus no air flow through the radiator.

and i replaced the hose and since it was 70 yesterday the 20 minutes home from where i pulled over i had the ac on, which meant the auxillary fan infront of the radiator/ac evaporator was on, and the temp never got above the 2nd bar or halfway
so hopefully all is good now
id still like to put an electic fan in tho to get rid of the noise the engine fan makes haha its the only noise i hear when the bmw is running
and how long have you had the s50 dropped in there?
any reliability issues after the swap or anything?
im debating about doing that to the other 325 is im picking up. haha granted right now im working on the iginition of this other bmw too at the moment
