Default Exhaust Question!

So This is an Odd question.

I have a Custom exhaust that goes from a Hotshot Header 3in's back to a Megan Drift Spec 3in muffler. No Cat, No Resonator and Ive noticed that the car runs smoother and Rev's quicker with the Silencer In.

If Im not running with the silencer will it damage the motor?? and Should I get a Hi flow cat or a resonator?

I want to get rid of that tacky Silencer SO BAD!

Answer: No, but it will damage your and others ears.

it probably just "feels" like it is smoother.

if you want to get it smoothed out, then get a SAFC and tune it a touch.
You're probably a considerable amount on the rich side anyway.

beyond that, for the sake of everyone else, just leave the silencer in it since you have it.

as far as what you "should do"

get a stupid amount of heat wrap. (you could technically wrap all the way from exhaust flange to muffler tip, so you can't really have "too much") get the headers wrapped up really well. Personally, I would say continue wrapping the exhaust as far back as your budget will allow. Chances are, the aftermarket piping you have is thin wall stuff and you loose a lot of heat (and sound) through that. Order a high flow cat from Jegs or something to save the baby seals. then get some universal in line resonator so save all of our ears. Then you ought to be able to just finish the exhaust off with piping.
Should still be loud enough and still have a good tone to it, but won't piss everyone off.

Its smoother because naturally aspirated factory engines generally require some exhaust back pressure to run correctly.

I never really understood that part...

is it just because they are tuned for it?

so when you lower the back pressure, effectively increasing the scavenging effect, you are pulling in more air/fuel than it was tuned for which tweaks it out because it doesn't know what is going on so it tried to compensate for it, then realizes nothing is wrong and lets it go, then tweaks out again.
???

I didn't want to make a new thread for this, and it's similar. Will running my car with no catback (just open test pipe), can I damage the motor?

seriously?

it will be retarded loud on a NA car, will most likely KILL power...

NA KA's need 4-2-1 header, 3" test pipe, 3" catback with resonator...

I had exactly that^. But I sold my 3" catback yesterday to fund Desoto this weekend. I started to pull the guy's stock one, but the bolts were rusted through, so he didn't want to drive back with no exhaust. So I'm waiting to see if he can bring me the stock one before Desoto. I just want to know in case he can't do it in time.

I'm searching around but getting mixed answers. Some say it can bend/warp a valve, some say it'll be fine. I have no fucking clue what to believe. If I could get someone like Empire or Epstein to confirm it, then I would have some piece of mind.
