What oil do you use?
conventional , name brand , every 3k , whatever is on sale , NEVER had an engine failure , and this is coming from a proffesional. Are you guys serious about running 15-40 in your Japanese cars? Way to heavy, I wonder if thats what was wrong with this 350z I put a motor in last month. Had a definite rod knock at 40k. I geuss he couldve beat the the shit out of it , but I beat the shit out of all my cars and never have a problem, but I dont use 15-40 in my Nissan

what weight does the factory recommend? When the factory recommends 5-20 or even 0-20 like some Hondas , thats because the clearances are very tight. If you put a heavy oil in there , you arent lubricating it properly. So , a professional like my self would say it is better to go with a lighter weight than 15-40. That doesnt mean it wont work , but adding a heavier weight doesnt mean you wont have a failure. I had a customer who put 20-50 in his car and right away it started to knock on start up until oil pressure built up , and it didnt do that before
I just rebuilt my bottom end and use 10w30 which is recommended by nissan and my machinest. So it would be good to run 10w40 after 50,000-100'000 miles in the summer. There should be no problem running 15w40 in the summer with 100,000+ miles.
