Default LSD - S13 guide

ok this is the only thing that confuses me. There is the JDM S13 LSD, S14 ABS VLSD, J30 LSD, etc etc.

Now which LSDs can you 'bolt' into the stock s13 pumpkin, and which requires the pumpkin, but still bolts to the factory axles?

dude...heres the deal. you use the pumpkin the diff comes in. you just change the back cover to your S13 cover. you dont need to swap the diffs out of the pumpkins. furthermore, if you get JUST a diff and want to put it in your pumpkin then you are either goign to have to buy LSD outputshafts ...and theres like 10 diffreent types...or have yours custom machined (talk to mattback). when buying a used VLSD for your car please specif to your parts suppler that you need the entire diff assembly with output flanges. adn that the output flanges need to be the 6 bolt variety.

An ABS S14 / J30 diff will work just fine in your car. the clearance is tight but it works fine. i have aone in my car with no problems and no custom mods to get it to fit.

i dont believe there have ever been two breeds of six bolt, as far as the flagnes go.

six bolt stuffs = six bolt stuffs

star shaped = star shaped - 5 individual, not tripod style (six bolt)

exactly. z32's are all star shaped.
so are cefiros, q45s, and other certain beasts.
generally if they were 6+ cylinder powered, they were 5 bolt powered. however earlier z31s are 4 bolt. (and they are 4 HUGE bolts)
some skylines are 6 bolt however, depends .. its wierd.

stick to a six bolt and you'll be fine.
however you can get a 5 bolts, you just need to swap output shafts.
best bet is to post and ask if its a good diff. and we will tell you what will need to be done to make it work, since you obviously can't read any faq's yourself on it.
