Four experienced drivers took turns at the controls of the Nissan GT-R NISMO fitted with track options at the famous track on September 30, two laps of the Nordschleife (North Loop) each. The goal: set the Nürburgring record for the fastest lap by a volume production car.

At 4:48 p.m., 12 minutes before the Nordschleife was scheduled to close, and five minutes before rain began to fall, the last of the four drivers on his last run of the day posted the record time of 7:08.679.


Under the hood, the 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine benefits from the know-how that NISMO has gained from participating in such events as the world-renowned Nürburgring 24 hour race. Engine power has risen and is now rated at 600hp (447kw) and 481 lb ft (652 Nm) of torque.

New high-flow, large diameter turbochargers, which are used for GT3 racing, improve breathing, while optimized individual ignition timing control for each cylinder and upgraded fuel pump improve combustion.

Hey I'm far from saying he's a bad driver because he certainly isn't but I still think he could have gone a little faster in certain parts of the track. Amazing lap though

I’m sorry to have to tell you this but I’m afraid that there is absolutely no way for you to have any idea whether or not that car could have been driven faster around the circuit simply from watching the video. I have been racing cars almost as long as I have been driving them and even I can’t tell for sure. Dash cam videos ALWAYS make it seem like the car is going slower than it actually is. You would have to be in the car at the time to really have a clue. Or at the very least you would have to be someone who not only has a lot of experience driving that particular track but who also has experience racing that exact car with the exact same set-up. Of course if you ever see a guy wildly power-sliding around all the turns - like some crazy guy in a Porsche was doing in one of these Nurburgring videos - then you can be completely sure that his time will not be nearly as fast as it could have been, because that kind of sloppy race driving really slows you down (although it may look very fast). The only time that kind of driving will give you fast lap times is on a dirt track.
