I learned that everyone i'm gunna get a motor from for the rest of my life is going to be sheisty bastard who deserves their teeth being kicked into the back of their throat. Other than that, i replaced the front main and seafoamed it. Oil pressure, check. Random ticking noise.... still fuckin there. I didn't add it to the fuel, just through the booster line and oil. It sounds like it's coming from the timing cover with a stethoscope but at the same time it's got me back to square one thinking some kind of weird rod knock idk man i'm at my wits end and i'm ready to just have someone else come look at it because i obviously can't figure out what the hell is going on here.

Not exactly where I was going. Lol.
I was thinking more like, if you're gonna buy an engine that has been sitting for a while, be prepared to tear it apart and at least reseal it.

Pull the fuel rail off and see what the spray looks like.

If you don't mind the mess, take the value cover off and crank the engine (don't start it) there should be ample oil flinging everywhere. If there is any doubt if it is enough, then it isn't.
You can take it a step further and pull the upper timing cover off and repeat that messy process. Should give you a good look at how the timing again moves around.

If you still don't have any clues, then I'd be pulling the head off to see what the insides look like.
I'd be looking for pistons I could wiggle with my fingers. Or valves that aren't seating.

Honestly, at this stage of the game, I'd just bite it and pull it all apart.

You could drop the oil pan and see how much play is in the rods to rule out rod knock.

OP - is this your daily? I sure hope not. Since you posted already that it sounds like its coming from the front cover focus your efforts there. If it pulls strong under normal situations and just has that odd tick coming from the front cover avoid throwing other variables at the situation. Your next step should be to take a look at whats behind the upper and lower cover. Timing sets are not cheap but they are good insurance for the engine in the long run.

It's rod knock. let it sit after the battery died and let the 10-40 soak in. knocknocknocknocknock. dude is duckin me now, so if anyone know's kodakan jdm on here, i'm gunna need his adress (; no it's not my daily.
