Default DIY - All red tail lights

Just wanted to throw a little DIY thread up to give this Nissan forum a little life.

This is a cheap easy way to improve the look of your tail lights instead of going with some ricey altezza lights ( looks decent on coupes though ) or spending $$$ on some kouki hatch tail lights.

Difficulty - *

Time - less than a hour

Cost $$ - $5.02

Materials
Testors Candy Apple Red/ Gloss custom Red you can find it at Michaels or a local hobby shop
Masking tape

Procedure

1 - Clean the lights with some soap and water

2 - Mask the edges and the red of the tail lights with your masking tape

3 - Spray light coats allowing to dry in between coats. I did 3 coats

( shitty pic, red dust all over the place ) lol

4 - remove the tape and VOILA!!! Thats it!

5 - Install and enjoy!!

nice.

how's it hold up to the sun and all of that?
I know the parts store sells that nightshade stuff in a red tint. But that's a good bit more expensive then what you used.

What does it look like with the turn signals and reverse lights on?
that would be a concern of mine. Maybe brighter bulbs for the turn signals?

Not too shabby. Better looking than them being blacked-out. I might wind up doing this instead of the 50/50's.

I personally like it better than the 50/50's. to me, the 50/50's just look too ricey.
And blacked out only works for certain colors... and I've never been impressed with it on a coupe.

It holds up very well. No fading at all. And yeah that nightshade just seems to ricey to buy and way more expensive. The lights show up great with the signals and the reverse lights. Its just as bright as the tail lights when they're on. You don't need a brighter bulb, the paint is very thin but covers very well. 3 coats is enough and everything is well. The 50/50's are just a bit to ricer for me but it looks good sometimes on coupe, but you'd have to pull it off.

Thanks!! When I got the car the guy had them blacked-out and it wasn't a light tint.....it was BLACK, as well with the side markers too. It took me forever to get that crap off so the lights kinda looked a bit faded and not so glossy, so I went with this alternative and it turned out GREAT. I'm glad I did this, it's something different.

Did a little video so you can see the lighting during the night. It shows up very well.

Thanks man! They'd look a lot better if I had paint lol. Are you doing them on a hatch or coupe?
