Default S15 Vs S14 Transmission

Let me preface this by stating that I know nothing about Nissan.

What has a higher final drive ratio, the 6spd transmission that comes with the s15 version fo the SR20 or the 5 spd that comes with the S14 verison of the SR20. I would assume the 6spd but I was told differently so that's why I'm asking.

*(excuse the garbled termanology)*

s14 owns you

s15 tranny is weaker b/c they stuffed six gears in the same space they had with five gears by making the gears narrower.

s15 is expensive, save money and blow it on booze... or a bigger turbo and ic

sigh

s15 trannies are not weak. they only become weak after 450-500 hp.

they also have the speed sensor (for the speedometer) in the lsd unit, making switching over somewhat hard. having a 6th gear gives a taller final drive, letting you cruise at 6th in a lower rpm/higher mph than you would with a 5 speed.

your welcome

Thankss that's what I was after..

Basicly like, if I'm doing 80 on the highway, I don't wanna be sititng at 4.2k or whatever 85mph was like 3200 in the Saab..

with the ka/sr/ca/rb/vg trannies which are in essence very much the same, you'll cruise at 80mph around 3k. i do. with a 6 speed, you could cruise at 80 in the extra 6th gear at probably 1k-1500

well theres another problem

people are idiots.

see, nissan did NOT cram 6 gears into the space they had with 5 gears.
it's a totally different transmission casing size and everything and different part number entirely.
the S15 trannies have problems with the input shaft teeth shearing off. what's the deal with that ? it's not the thickness of the gears the problem, it just happens. T5's do that all the time also.

As of right now i dont have a bellhousing that will work with a KA and the nissan 6 speed. and you can't interchange the gears either.

I suggest changing out your final drive to a 3.70 if you want 3000 rpm to be 80 mph in 5th gear.
