RED TOP VS. BLACK TOP
BLACK TOP=180SX RED TOP =S13 SILIVA,..WHAT IS BETTER TO TUNE AND MAKE FAST IM GOING TO ADD A T3/T4 AND ALOT MORE UPGRADES THE ONLY THING I KNOW IS THAT THE BLACK TOP IS NEWER AND THE BOTH HAVE THE SAME SPECS
omfg
...
there are 3 different models of black top motors
and one variation of red top
i am not going to go into it any farther, why dont you try www.freshalloy.com in the "Basic 240SX" section

personally id go with an black top from an s15
lil bigger turbo
red and black top s13 motors are exacary the same. blacktop might be newer but not guaranteed to be. a little more expensive because of that too, usually around 400-500 more.
s14 motor incorporates vtc, a variable timing change like vvt-i and vtec, t28 compressor/ t25 turbine i think (someone correct me if wrong) and low port head design net you 15 extra horsepower, same torque. so u get 220hp, 203tq still. between $3400 and $4000. rare.
s15 raises boost and small changes to compressor on the turbo, as well as *i think* (again correct me) its true t28 on both turbine and compressor, you get 250 horsepower, but same torque. expect around $6k for this setup. also includes transmission which is 6 speed, good up til around 450whp in which case 5 speed swap is suggested (to fit 6 gears in the same gearbox they just made a few existing gears smaller [thinner sprockets]), the speed sensor is in the differential, alot harder to hook up a working speedometer. EVEN RARER.
skip the s14 and s15, get an s13, upgrade it and all, it has the best parts lineup and dealing with vtc in the later motors can be pro/con sometimes.
oh yeah s14 and s15 motors have 480cc injectors instead of s13 red/black top's 370cc.

I think the s15 has even bigger inkectors than the s14.
Too lazy to look up, check out www.unstablehybrids.com or heavythrottle I forget which but they have a spec sheet as well as all the other links posted.

i am almost sure only the s15 Spec R inejctors are 480cc. regular s15 and s14 injectors are the same, both 370scc
