Default anyone know anything about 96 altimas??

I had a friend that broke a timing on her car and they gave her a 2,000 dollars estimate what are the choices in this???? Get a new engine??? would cost what? repair it???? please help

Here is a good resource for you..... www.altimas.net

The '96 Altima didn't have a V6 Carey..only a 150HP 2.4l 4 banger. Only 2K2 and later were available with the V6. And, the1st generation Altimas don't suck...that much. Actually its a great little car. Same engine as 240SX.
I have a '96 Altima SE. They have a timing chain, and not a belt. I assume this is what your friend broke. How....I' not sure....pretty hard to break a chain.
$2500 seems costly to me. Shop around for a better price. Get a Haynes book for Altimas ($10) at Pep Boys and do some research to make sure the problem you have is what they are telling you is wrong.
