Hard wire it in with a new 30 amp fuse, 30 amp relay and 12 gauge wire. That will flow some high current so protect the wire and loom it where ever it might be next to or touching metal.

Why not upgrade since its broken?

If you get some 10ga wire, then put in a relay thats switched on by the stock wire, you wont see nearly as much voltage drop at the pump as with the stock 10 feet of 16ga or whatever it is...should cost about $20..

^ best thing to do to get a nice reliable power source for your fuel pump.

In the DSM world the "FP rewire" is pretty much the first mod on the list.

RRE did some testing to prove it if you're interested.

its probably the combination of a crap ground and the fuel pump starting to die. as they die, the voltage draw goes up. the stock wire can only flow so much voltage.

If you run a new wire, make sure you do it right and not some half assed wire hanging off of the battery terminal that goes straight to the fuel pump. And don't just shove the wire into the fuse spot either.

all you guys are wrong....

the smoke is perfectly normal, everyone has it, just kinda drive around and hope it doesn't get worse, then, when you wake up to go to work the next morning, your car will look like this!

for serious though, just wire it back up, put some electrical tape on the twisted together wires (you know NOT to solder anything), just make sure the twist is tight, so you have a steady contact, and just daily the car, worry free!
