Default Will a 97 j30 diff bolt right into s13???

I know 94 and earlier need modification to work, and 95+ have the same 6 bolt flange and bolt right in, but everywhere I've read say they aren't sure if the 97 bolts in without modification.

I've been researching this option for a dif too. Those '94 and earlier J30 difs have 5 bolt output shafts much like the 180sx dif I ended up grabbing.

But I do believe you will find that their installation into a s13 chassis is the same for the later J30 difs. That would mean its much like bolting an s14 dif into an s13. Both the J30 and s14 have a 2 rubber mounts in the front "ears" of the dif, where the s13 bolts directly, no rubber isolators. You will need to use your s13 rear cover because it 4 bolt, not 2 and front mounting bolts because they are longer...essentially the exact same thing as if you were using a '94 and earlier dif from a J30.

Here is some good info too: http://www.ka24development.com/vlsd.html

Consider yourself lucky not to have to have to source out different axles or output shafts. Though NAPA does have the 5 bolt axles for the cheap, as i was shown yesterday by NeedCAfors13.

Hope this helps and that others chime in to confirm.

Napa does not keep the 5 bolt axles in stock, takes 4-6 weeks to get one.

I just went through this for my r32 diff.

All you need is the j30 front diff bolts, and swap the s13 cover on. Done.

Really? Who knew they just wouldn't have them on the shelf. Seems like the more l check things out for cars like ours they are special order. And since I cant imagine the J30 being as popular as the 240, axles will be just another item to add to the list of something we could use but need to wait for.

The OP is lucky with his dif is 6-bolt and will just drop right in.

it will just inspect the bushings on the front cause youll need longer bolts, you could just buy solid inserts instead, im using j30 internals with a open diff ring gear in a open diff housing.
