Question What year caps are these S14 or S15 ?

Basically I spun a bearing and threw a rod in my supposedly S14/S15. Then went and got another Notch top motor but the Bottom is different the girdle, crank and caps are different.

The top one I was told were found in S13's and S14's and the bottom one is I think S15+ can someone confirm this for me?

Are there any differences S15 vs S14 bottom? such as strength or weight savings?

I've never noticed any differences, same castings. My S14 block has the same caps with the point so could be either or, most likely S14

The top is an definitely a s13 main cap. I have no idea what the bottom one is.

If You Are Using New Caps On A Different Block Make Sure You Get It Line Honed For Perfect Fitment

I was told by two people one with a S13 and the other with S14 say the top one is what they had.

I'm thinking the top one could possibly be of S13 into the early S14 1994-1996.

The cap on the bottom that was my first motor the oil pump failed on me and caused this

So I got another S14 long Block that I want to do a fresh rebuild on but when I took it all apart come to find out the Bottom end is different. I like the bottom end on my first motor better so I want to use the caps and girdle from that motor everything so far looks swappable.

My question is why the different girdle and caps? on supposedly S13, S14 maybe S15?? I saw a S16 with the same caps the one on the bottom and that motor was built in 97-98.

i cant tell you the difference in caps in general. but i can tell you that casting numbers from year to year can change allot but know this each cap and girdle is made for the engine its cnc out from. meaning that each cap and girdle is not compatible from one engine to the other unless you get it line honed. it might bolt up or even fit but its not perfect. even if you use arp main stud bolts on a engine you have to get it line honed. it changes the pressure and clearance just from the difference in clamp load. and i dont think that was caused from a bad oil pump. i think a rod broke. i dont see huge bearing wear that would show low oil pressure. i think a rod bolt just simply broke from stress or because it was stretched. but i do only have a limited about of pictures I'm seeing. the head does not look like it took a huge impact from like a bearing spinning and making it possible for the piston to hit the head and also the bearings on the other mains and rods look a little worn but not close to spinning. just my little input hope it helped out thanks
