See, i'm just going to by pass all that and run open downpipe! Put the exhaust money into cams or something.

Maybe I should get a 3.5" downpipe made or something!

3.5" x 2 = over kill/bottem end torque loss, if u wanna go big just get the greg dupree 3" downpipes

and open downpipes own all
I'm not talking about the Z32.

Exhaust sizing on turbo cars and NA cars is very different. In theory, you want the largest exhaust possible on a turbo setup. Of course, you can reach a point of diminishing returns at where going larger makes no additional power.

Turbos make power mainly by way of a pressure differential, delta P, where pressure is high before the turbo and low after it. The lower you can make the pressure after the turbo, the more power you will produce and the better the turbo will spool up. Therefore, a larger exhaust will always produce more power and better spoolup of the turbo. The decrease in lag will also translate into more low end torque on a dyno run, as the turbo is creating boost earlier in the power band.

The biggest exhaust you can put on a car would be to theoretically remove it completely and run an open down pipe. I have never heard of anyone complaining from power losses from an open downpipe.

The theory of having too large an exhaust hurting low end torque only applies to NA cars. There is a misnomer that NA cars need a certain amount of backpressure to create low end torque. This is not correct. On an NA car, you want to use the largest possible exhaust that will also create the highest exhaust gas velocity. That means that you want an NA exhaust to flow as much as possible without sacrificing the velocity of the exhaust gases. Of course, when you go larger with the exhaust, the velocity decreases, which hurts bottom end power.

Anyways, the bottom line is that the 4" HKS will be badass on a 240SX. I can only imagine how good it would sound

Peace out,
I would love to see the Dyno numbers comparing a 3inch to a 4 inch on a car under 450 hp. I could bet my ass there would be no gain with a 4 inch. Too loud also. I know my 3 inch is too loud.

sabri ill buy the $1350 hks racing exhaust but then ill not be able to use it til i save up ALL that money to get my turbo stuff lol!!! but i might do it if i use a t3/t04b on the f-max manifold. it would sound good as hell i bet but i wouldnt run it on my n/a setup now cuz hot damn that would be loud as a mother focker. but id run it on the howard franklin just to see how many people i can pisso ff with the noise.

i think hks racing exhaust + s-afc +test pipe = alot of potential for flames!!!

we have a dyno tests. I will post them when I get back from Cali. 3in dp and N1 exhaust (90mm) vs 4in dp and hks ti on a t88h. 65rwhp difference. And about 700 rpm faster spoolup on a 95 supra. (FYI: the t88h has a 4in turbine discharge) The HKS sounds badass btw, very loud though. Sort of like a straight exhaust with a huge resonator.
