Default KA head sounds like death

Finally got the all of the little odds and ends stuff fixed and got this engine started and the head sounds like it isn't getting any oil.
The engine sat for less than a month. It ran just fine. Just had terrible timing chain slap because the tensioner took a crap. It was driven into my garage when the engine was pulled. The engine sat for less than a month.
It starts easy.
Thinking it could just be due to the engine sitting, we took it around the block. Has a decent amount of pull. Not awesome, but decent. It went into a SOHC chassis, so the tach isn't working.
After the trip around the block, it still sounds like crap.
I can only describe it as it sounds like all of the valves are tapping and knocking because it isn't getting enough oil.
I need some suggestions.
Either possible causes, or things to check/test.

Cliff notes : engine sat for a month. put into new car. sounds like there is no oil pressure/no oil in head. need possible causes, and/or things to check/test

thanks

took the guides off when I replaced the tenioner

Took the oil cap off earlier and didn't really see any oil, but I didn't really have oil flying out of that cap on my other engines though..

I just took the valve cover off and turned the engine over to see what I could see. figured the worst it would do is make a mess.
Didn't see any oil on the cams or anything. Looks like the only oil that is getting to the head is whatever is flying off of the timing chain as spins by.

any ideas?

I'm gonna get a new oil filter to rule out the possibility of it being a clogged/bad filter. the previous owner of this engine was a cheap ass, so the filter is probably 3 oil changes old.

damn i would say get a oil pressure gauge and check it.
and swap out the oil filter not sure that will do anything thou.
check to see if you have enough oil in there i know dumb
and your oil suck up pump might be clogged or the oil pump might have said f**k you

took the old filter off and turned the engine over and oil does come spewing out. so the pump is moving oil around, it just isn't getting to the cams...
The old filter was an old puralator one that I have no doubt was on there for a few oil changes because the previous owner was a cheap ass redneck. So it might have been clogged up. Putting a new filter on just to be safe.
I'm thinking there is just some gunk in there that has clogged up the oil passageways. Gonna try to run some flush stuff through it and see what happens.
I poured a bunch of oil all over the cams when I had the valve cover off. Hopefully that will work long enough to let the flush do its thing.

oil pumps don't typically crap out on dohc engines... sohc, yeah it happens, there is usually another cause that kills the pump, but the pumps do die.
and yes, there is plenty of oil in there.

well, the system cleaner didn't seem to make much difference... I'm too scared of damage to just let the thing keep running... so, now, we're starting the process of pulling the pan...
It is a weird thought to hope to find crap in there...

haha trust me i was really damn surprised to pull the pan off and find out that the timing guides up and took a shit and the chain ate it into small ass pieces of plastic and clog up the suck up tube.
now if you pull the pan and there isnt shit but sludge your gonna be pissed cause that means the oil passages are clogged. if so just an idea by maybe you can get a air hose and shoot air up there and maybe blow the shit out idk for sure just an idea if worse comes to worse
