I just got my first 240 what should I do first - Nissan 240SX Forums

Do that, check for rust. Read around the forums really it'll teach you a lot.

Take it to a mechanic have him do a used car check its like 40 bucks. It'll save guesswork.

Check for all of the basic used car stuff... there is maintenance stuff to do once you get it. The only thing I could really say to look for above the basics would be to check the rear wheel wells for burnt rubber. If there is rubber crap, then, most likely, the previous owner thought he was a mad tyte jdm driftor then the car has been beat on. Most of the time it is no big deal. It is just something to keep in mind, especially if the seller is saying he babied it all of the time.

check for rust
look under the hood if there is a wiring nightmare dont get it.
^ same with interior
look in the trunk if you see a bottle of oil and coolant dont buy it
if you start it up and it smokes or overheats dont buy it
if the seller seems like a douche bag he is probably is

Best advice ever. When I got my black 240, as soon as I was going to get it, the seller asked me to take out the bottle of power steering fluid that was in the back. I didn't think about it twice. A few weeks later, sure enough it was out of power steering fluid. It had a leaky rack and I ended up having to replace it.
