Default Little tricks you have learned on the way (CAR RELATED)

Lets try and keep this a legit thread.

Post up some things you have learned along the way while working on cars. Tricks/tips car and s chassis related.

Ill start off so you get the idea:

-Cheap cat litter to soak up oil/random fluids

-WD 40 if you forgot to wear gloves and need something to break down the grease on your hands (assuming you do not have other things) I do this a lot before washing hands with soap.

-Sawzaw is your friend

3. Download the damn FSM
a. Learn the wiring diagram

4. Use common sense, don't ghetto rig shit (don't have the "I gotta drive this out tonight no matter what" mentality.

Tip #1: build the car you want, not the car that people tell you that you want.

Trick #1&2&3: If you suck at setting the cam timing on your motor, ziptie the cam sprockets to the chain. Removing the sprockets from the cams is much easier in the head, since the caps are holding it in place. It's just a 1" opened to hold the cam, and a 24mm to do the bolt. Use a deep 24mm and it will sit in the notch on the front of the head. This gives you tool clearance for the ratchet and helps brace the socket as you undo the 100ft-lb bolt.

when removing a pilot bearin without th proper tool:

1 wet tiny pieces of paper towel and shove them behind the pilot
2 repeat step 1 alot
3 take a small socket and extention just slightly smaller than pilot bearing hole and hammer into the hole
4 repeat step 1 as the paper compresses
5 pilot bearing pops out.

works great

another tip... cocain would have probably been a cheaper hobby than cars
