its probably just your float.. pull it out by removing the plate thats covering your gas tank and check to make sure its not bent or binding up or anything.. should be able to get one for pretty cheap.. if you have a buddy that will let you tinker with there car you can messure the signal that is being sent out by the float when its at full tank and comapair to yours to give you an idea on whats going on and if the sensor is bad or not..

Sounds like you have the assembly off somewhere, take it out of the tank and inspect.
Shit happened to me a couple times.

Mine used to read under, but then I ran some Lucas through the tank and it worked like it was supposed to after that. Just sayin.

They tend to be off from the factory or get progressively worse as the vehicle ages. I've owned two nissan vehicles and the gauges in both never reach a full tank, but it'll drop below the E line before the light comes on. Im sure there is a fix for it, but I really don't want to go tearing into my gas tank unless I need to replace my fuel pump.

I had a similiar problem, when I filled my tank with gas it went to full, but when the gauge was showing empty actually had half tank of gas left (thought I was getting terrible gas mileage) first I replaced the level sender but samething kept happening. ended up being the fuel gauge itself. replaced the fuel gauge in the cluster and its been perfect since.
