first off I agree Kas are suck!. i have do deal with my money grubbin SOHC 40 second beast on a daily basis. I also agree that the Z is shunned alot by the nissan world in general. This is why when i was trying to get a nissan club together here i generalised it so that the 300s werent excluded. I think the major problem has been that all the newer Z owners were kinda dick to alot of the 240/sentra owners and gave all the Z car owners a shitty rep. Ive been considering tryin to drop a z31 in my 240 as opposed to the SR20 but im not sure whether the cost is gonna be too high. the last time I did it it cost me an arm and a leg ( about $5000) and because I was such a newbie to all this swappin stuff (this was about 4 years ago) i got raped by the mechanic. Im sick of argueing over inane bs so if youve got some good suggestions i could use em. BTW- to martin- it was nice meetin ya man you a cool guy. Thanks for tha advice and I eneded up swappin numbers with taka on sunday.

 

Z31 isnt a motor its a chassis designation.

As the proud owner of two Ka powered cars (Nissan PU SOHC and Altima SE DOHC) each with 100K miles Ill vouch for their reliability. As far as the DOHC in my Altima (basicaly same engine as 240SX) Its been a decent performer. Makes great torque can smoke the meats of the front pretty easily. Gets me around the autocross track as fast as many V-tec powered cars and sometimes faster.
What would make my car better? Well rear wheel drive and independant rear suspension oh and a few less pounds. Hmmm...wait a minute that would be a 240SX. The 240SX is a cool little car. At least Nissan had the gonads to make a rear drive sport coupe (dare I say sports car) with IRS to boot back in 89. While others in Japan were making front drive boring underpowered econoboxes.
The only problem with the 240SX is that Nissan gave up on it. They made it bigger and more up-scale in 95. When they should have made it more powerful and refined. They failed to keep up with the changing market. The 240SX in my opinion is a basically good car that was moved to the back burner and forgotten about by Nissan and many enthusiasts.
