Default SR20DET Spun Rod Bearing Question

I am new to rebuilding engines, and my SR has a spun rod bearing, but the main bearings and crankshaft look good. So can I just replace the bearing and somehow flush the metal bits out of the motor?

Check the cam lobes for damage from particles in the oil. Also, your oil pump will probably need to be changed.

Just get a compressor and blow air in all the oil passages and lines and shit. Get the crank polished if it is fine, replace all bearings, new oil pump.

no, it just sounds that simple...

You're in that grey area where it all just depends.
Its all gonna depend on how much damage has been done. If it is just spun and the bearing is tore up, then it is a simple clean up and replace and assemble. But if the crank is torn up too, then you need to pull the crank and have it polished. Now, this is where I would recommend having the machine shop assemble the bottom end, again, depending on the severity of the damage. If the crank is really scarred, but can be polished out, it is going to been to be balanced and either a thicker bearing in that space, or all of them machined down to the same size.

from what I can see the crank looks fine, with no scars...but I dont have a socket big enough to turn it, so I have to pick one up later on in the week. But as for the bearing its totally gone

You gotta measure the crank and see if its within spec

if the bearing is totally gone, then I would imagine the crank is pretty hurt... the only way for a bearing to be totally gone is if it gets ground up, as in against the crank...
