Fixing the 300zx.
Ok i just recently purchased a 92 Nissan 300zx its a 5 speed manual 2 seater coupe. When i purchased the car the guy said it needed a new transmission. I got it for $750 bucks and i really wanted one so i couldnt pass it up. When i push in the clutch its really hard going down, almost impossible to get to the floor but ran through all gears fine and when you put it in gear it wants to move, you can feel the car pull but it goes nowhere. my uncle owned XATracing in tampa and they did work on 240's so i gave him a shout and he said it might be a clutch problem so try that if it doesn't work he said bring it to him in tampa. When we looked at the car we noticed there was a gap between the motor and the transmission..about 1/2 an inch gap, i went to put the bolts back in and noticed the ground wire was shoved down in the bellhousing and got stuck, we dropped the tranny tonight, got it out, tightened everything back up thinking maybe that was the problem since the tranny wasnt connected...nothing. Im installing the new clutch kit on friday hoping to fix it, but im just wondering if anyone has ever ran into this problem before, sorry the post is so long i wanna be detailed. It kills me to see this thing and not have it running.
i would change the clutch first, shoulda changed it when you have the tranny out. If it had a gap between the motor and tranny it could have damage the clutch or even the shaft that goes into the motor ( can't think if it's input or output atm) does the slave move freely when not connected to the transmission? If so i would say clutch.
and most of us would rather see a detailed long post then something that says " my car won't move, what do you guys think is wrong?"

Yea it move's fine a few guys looked at it and someone they know had a similar problem and all it was, was the TO bearing, so im replacing all of that on Friday when the parts are in, also i know its missing but other than that it sounds fine, for $750 even if i replace the tranny completely its still a hell of a deal, the car is in good shape and sounds good.
I doubt it is the tranny, I would say tob but if you are going to replace it you might as well replace everything that could be the problem, and a new clutch is always nice. let us know what the problem is when you get it figured out.

Bad clutch may have fuqored up the tranny, but as stated above always start with the clutch/flywheel. Even if you had to replace the tranny you still would want to do a new clutch/flywheel at the same time due to labor intesive. You may be suprised what happens.
If the synchro's aren't toar up on the tranny it may have been just a clutch that slowly faded out on the previous owners. Usually on old cars though, when the clutch starts fading on them, people grind, jam and improvise on shifting gears until the car grinds to a hault and they can't drive it anymore.
