At first I was using Matt's old peak performance valve springs and his solid lifters. Now I'm running Supertech dual valve springs. The BC 264 cams were great. What turbo are you running? It must be large for you to go to the 272's, if not, I'd be willing to bet you'd see a larger (see area) graph running the 264's.

But like Matt said, not many people run solids around there.

yea, the turbo is large enough to warrant the 272 cams Thanks for all the info guys, I'm probably going to go with the tomei solid lifter setup...I might look into the tomei solid cams as well, not sure yet. (I already have a set of BC 272's, springs, and retainers on the way...so it will depend on if i sell them or not)

I've been hearing a few horror stories about the BC valvetrain, so I'm going to look into that some more and go from there. Worst case scenario I'll sell the BC springs and retainers and go supertech...

you can run any cam and lifter combo, it doesn't matter. most of the people saying you have to run a solid lifter cam are rednecks used to v8's.

I've never owned a V8... You're arguement is invalid...

Perhaps I'm going based off of a performance aspect. If you buy cams designed for a certain setup, wouldn't you run that setup? Even Tomei recommends they shouldn't be used with factory HLA's.

Get the Tomei cams, I'm not a fan of BC cams, I've read that most of their cams are a couple degrees off on their centerlines. I've heard of a couple stories about peoples springs breaking on them, but don't have any personal experience with them.

true story, i've had ferreas break on me. portflow's break, crowers break, oem honda and oem nissan break, among others.

valvesprings fatigue over time. i'm running supertech now in my car, they seem to take the most abuse, but even they need to be replaced next year if i don't want to keep the engine a ticking time bomb.

titanium retainers have about a 20,000 mile street life or 1 season race life by the way.

as much as the bc's might be off a degree here or there, they still make absolutely ridiculous power even with stock cam gear timing.

IMO for the cost of complete valvetrain, you could do a VE head for the same or a bit more.

THen you're looking at custom intak emanifold, custom exhaust manifold, modifications to the block, modifiecations to the rank trigger, and a plethora of other stuff that you forgot to mention.

you can, however, bolt on a built head/valvetrain and use all of your preexisting components without any issue.
