Default ka24det question?

hi tr my boy gots an 93 hatch with ka24det he has a top mount turbo manifold with a t3 turbo and 370cc injectors from the sr and a fmic and the car smokes and bogs and wont stay on idle unless i keep my foot on the gar but it runs i just wanted to know if the engine needs a tuning cuz is not tune i think o and when we start the car the turbo smokes alot like if it was on fire and oil is coming out of the turbo my guess is he needs a new turbo.any imput would be appreciated thanks.

what color is the smoke?

what tuning is being used? ecu, mafs, piggyback?

The smoke and idling problems is the stock ecu getting owned trying to run the car properly. GET IT TUNED, and I'm 99% positive your friend didn't recirc his bov. Tell him to open the radiator cap and look for oil. Check the engine oil as well, if it looks like a chocolate milkshake something is wrong...

White smoke sweet smelling smoke = burning coolant.
Black smoke = unburnt fuel/rich (smells like gas)

it is a stock ecu there is no oil mixture on the coolant or on the engine itself the smoke is white and the car does not overheat i check the spark plugs just to make sure there is no oil on them and they are dry so can it be that it needs a tune and a new turbo.

Your friend will not be able to trouble shoot anything until he gets the car TUNED....anything until then is just guessing since so much is/can be going on due to that fact that you slapped on a turbo (a t3 at that) bigger than stock injectors (370's) of course the car is going to run like garbage man come on

damn u guys dont have to be such dicks man it was just a question and by the way most of the cars ive own were 240sx hatchy just not turbo the only one i had was an sr powered and this was to help my boy.It was just a simple question no harm done to answer it to a felow 240sx owner damn!

and i know he has to get it tune and yea the answers that i was hoping to get was a guessed answer i was not looking for the exact answer,i wanted to get inputs but damn man i thought this forum was to help people with not bash somebody for wat they asked but anyways it was for my boy he just got into the nissan 240sx world/

he needs to at least get an s-afc on it to allow the car to run.

i'm willing to bet that the blow off valve isn't recirculated, and that, combined with the extra fuel, are not letting the car run.

i wouldn't try to diagnose the smoke until you get the car where it should be running properly. get an s-afc on there as a temporary use to diagnose, then get the car a worthy ECU tune (rs enthalpy is in the area, as is martin's tunes at zfever).


technically you should be able to put the stock 270cc injectors back in, and the car should be able to be driven around in cruising mode and idle. (if you do that, DO NOT GET ON IT or else boom) if the car idles and drives down the street and back ok with the stock injectors, then your problem is likely the tune. if the car is still smoking, it could be the turbo or another issue.
