Default KA-t setup Questions

I am new to imports but have done lots of research to keep myself from asking to many noob questions. Ive built jeeps and now i wanna try something new. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

I am planning on buying a stock 240 with a DOHC KA. I am hoping to buy a used t25 due to my tight budget. I have a few questions about boosting it.

If i wanted to use an sr20 manifold(top-mount) would i need to do any mods to anything?(hood, mounting, etc)

I also would like to find out which mods are recommended for fuel system issues-injectors, fuel rail, yada yada.

Any info is great. BTW loving this site already. TR

uhh best bet with building a KA-t is rebuilding the ka,and using low compression pistons, forged internals etc etc. unless its uber lower miles..

the stock rods are good for low boost, only thing you need to worry about is the stock piston rings. SR manifolds wont work with out modification, plus their stock manifolds are bottom mount.. and when you get them modified to work for a ka they are really likely to crack..

im guessing your not going for crazy numbers, a t25 is small for a 2.4L, a t28 would be a better bet, and also use atleast SR 370cc injectors. walboro 255 lph is a good pump..

okay im looking to run about 7-8lbs of boost and 180ish hp. I've been looking at 370cc injectors and walboro 255s, how much will i be looking to spend on those?

you should be able to find the injectors cheap in the nissan f/s section, probably less than 50 for all 4, the 255 im not to sure about but they are around $100, if i remember right.

As for the intercooler, I've read that theyre easy to swap in because the japonese versions came with them stock. Is that right?

thats a stock SR side mount intercooler, youd have to cut an opening for it where the airbox would go to, the piping on it is restrictive and the core isnt great your better with getting a cheap one off ebay

ok, id rather have a FMIC anyway.

So, do you think a mild boost setup is possible for under $500?

i guess it could be possible, if you get deals. but im not promising that the engine will last more than 6 months. the tuning would have to be done professionally and you cant cheap out on the important parts

cheap-fast
cheap-reliable
reliable- fast

you can only choose 2

No. To do everything it will not be under $500. Some may deny this, but to do it the "right way", it will cost more.

Go onto KA-T.org to get more info on what your looking for. The main thing you need to focus on is what tune you are going with. I greatly suggest Enthalpy, that is what route I went and the tuners are local if you needed any help. Just my tune cost me $400.

Just get 370cc and swap them into your rail, it will bolt right up. Most all SR parts with bolt right up besides the manifold but you can use the stock SR turbo, elbow, downpipe, and intake. If you modify the cold pipe, you can also run the stock SR sidemount. Also you have to tap the oil pan to run an oil drain from the turbo, I would look into the JGS kit for that.

I have some parts leftover from my build I can sell you for cheap. PM me if your interested or have anymore questions.
