Default Driveshaft problem

Anyone know why a M/T drive shaft would only spline in half way? It goes in about half way then it feels like its hitting something. There is no apparent damage to the splines that I can see.

Any ideas?

Dont know if it makes a difference but I also found out it was in gear during the test runs. It had no shift lever or d/s in at that time which is why I didnt know it was in gear.

Its the original transmission and driveshaft from the car as well.

I just remembered there is very slight surface rust on the outside and about half way down the input shaft on the D/S. Would that be enough to stop it from going the rest of the way in?

I had a similar problem with my S13 driveshaft, but mine broke when my Diff locked up on me. I dont think this is your problem, just stating.

The surface rust shouldn't be an issue, although it might be a good idea to clean it off with some scotchbrite... Could there be a burr or something on the tailshaft(defect) keeping it from sliding all the way in?

Is there something shoved inside of the driveshaft's pee-hole? That would do it.

There was a very small piece of metal stuck in the tail shaft of the gear box. Its all fixed now.
